Once again the Eagles management has deemed a player expendable that appeared to many experts, media and fans as an important piece of the defense. While it is true they do have 2 veterans in Hollis Thomas (nickname IR) and Darwin Walker and 2 solid when healthy players in rayburn and grasmanis plus the impressive rookie Patterson, does anyone feel comfortable that any 4 of the 5 will make it through a year without a significant injury and loss of availability? Will Patterson hit the rookie wall at 13 games or so when you most need him? While it is somewhat easy to see why the eagles pulled the franchise tag at this time what is not as easy to see and understand is why they did not make more of an effort to sign him to a long term deal 2 years ago and then again last year. Reports that they made any real attempt at giving him market or even close to market value have been debunked by several sources. It seems the Eagles decided to lowball him in hopes he would jump at the instant riches of a 7 million plus signing bonus. didn't work. This is the same issue they are having signing Westbrook and Michael Lewis. These players are not just young players but rather stars in the league now and you just can't try and lowball everyone that walks in the door as they did with sheldon brown, lito s. etc.. I have to wonder how a move like this along with some other questionable personel decisions like forcing ike reese out etc. is going to affect the players run through a brick wall attitude they have displayed over the last several years. Eventually this type of low ball management style will catch up with the team. Players talk and after a few years of this i am sure the word is out that Philly is a great place to play but not to get paid or respected by management. One of the least loyal teams in the NFL.
